When selecting a silicone fluid for lubrication, one of the first questions is usually:
“What viscosity do I need?”
Viscosity is important, but it may not be the complete selection criterion.
When equipment also operates across changing temperatures or comes into contact with oils or other industrial media, the type of silicone fluid should also be considered.
Industrial lubrication may involve several conditions at the same time:
Two silicone fluids with similar room-temperature viscosity should therefore not automatically be considered equivalent.
PDMS silicone fluids are widely used in general lubrication, damping, release and other industrial applications.
For relatively moderate operating environments without demanding media-compatibility requirements, conventional PDMS may already be suitable.
A specialty fluid should not be selected simply because it sounds more advanced.
When lubrication requirements are combined with more demanding media or temperature conditions, fluorosilicone oil may be worth evaluating.
KIMITER IOTA-L-1011 Methyl Fluorosilicone Oil is currently positioned for applications including lubrication, damping and industrial uses in machinery, automotive, instrumentation and electronics.
It can therefore be considered as a candidate for applications involving combinations such as:
Lubrication + demanding media
Lubrication + temperature variation
Damping + temperature variation
Precision equipment + specialty fluid requirements
Final suitability should be confirmed under actual operating conditions.
“Oil resistance” is too broad for accurate selection.
The actual medium may be a lubricant, fuel, hydraulic fluid, solvent or another industrial liquid.
Their chemistry can be very different.
For this reason, provide the specific medium, rather than simply asking for an “oil-resistant silicone fluid.”
For a more useful recommendation, provide:
This information helps determine whether conventional PDMS, fluorosilicone oil, ethyl silicone oil or another specialty silicone fluid should be evaluated.
Is fluorosilicone oil always better than PDMS for lubrication?
No. Selection depends on actual operating conditions.
Is viscosity enough to select a silicone lubricant?
Not for every application. Temperature, media and equipment conditions may also matter.
When can IOTA-L-1011 be considered?
It can be evaluated for specialty lubrication, damping and related industrial applications according to the actual operating environment.
Is “oil resistant” enough information for product selection?
No. The exact contact medium should be identified.
Can IOTA-L-1011 directly replace an existing lubricant?
A direct replacement should not be assumed without compatibility and equipment testing.
