How is fluorosilicone oil-resistant?

Hits: 155 img

Fluorosilicone has excellent oil resistance. Combining the advantages of silicone rubber and fluororubber, it effectively resists corrosion from a wide range of oils and chemicals, maintaining stable performance in extreme environments.

This is demonstrated in the following ways:
Broad oil resistance: Fluorosilicone is resistant not only to mineral oils, fuels (such as gasoline and diesel), lubricating oils, and hydraulic oils, but also to animal and vegetable oils and solvents. Its volume expansion upon contact is less than 5%, preventing swelling, softening, or cracking.
High-temperature stability: Fluorosilicone maintains excellent oil resistance within a temperature range of -60°C to 232°C, and can withstand higher temperatures for short periods. For example, in a high-temperature test at 175°C, the compression set was only 29%, ensuring a reliable seal. Excellent chemical compatibility: It exhibits excellent resistance to acids, bases, solvents, and non-polar oils (such as motor oil), but ketones and low-molecular-weight esters should be avoided. Testing shows that its oil resistance, such as IRM903, is stable at 150°C, surpassing that of ordinary silicone and nitrile rubber.

Compared to other materials, fluorosilicone offers significant advantages: While ordinary silicone easily ages and deforms at temperatures exceeding 200°C or in prolonged oil contact, fluorosilicone offers a lifespan 3-5 times that of ordinary rubber in high-temperature oil environments. Nitrile rubber's oil resistance decreases rapidly at high temperatures, while fluorosilicone offers both high-temperature and oil resistance.

For this reason, fluorosilicone is widely used in demanding applications:
Automotive: Fuel system seals, transmission oil seals, and turbocharger pipes.
Aerospace: Aircraft engine seals and hydraulic system components.

Industrial equipment: Oil extraction valves and chemical pipeline joints ensure long-term sealing in complex oil and chemical environments. In short, fluorosilicone is known as the "Little Prince of Oil Resistance" for its excellent oil resistance and is an ideal choice for high-end oil-resistant applications.
