Advantages of Fluorosilicone Oil in Automotive Fuel Injection Systems

Hits: 297 img

The advantages of fluorosilicone oil in automotive fuel injection systems are primarily reflected in its excellent thermal stability, chemical inertness, and material compatibility, making it an ideal material for sealing and lubricating critical components in high-pressure common rail systems.

Excellent High-Temperature Stability: Fluorosilicone oil maintains stable physical and chemical properties over a wide temperature range of -50℃ to 250℃, far exceeding traditional mineral oils and some synthetic ester lubricants. In high-pressure common rail systems, the local temperature near the injector nozzle can reach over 200℃. Fluorosilicone oil does not easily volatilize or oxidize, effectively preventing carbon deposits and sludge formation caused by high-temperature cracking, ensuring injection accuracy and long-term system reliability.

Excellent Corrosion Resistance and Fuel Compatibility: The C–F and Si–O bonds in the molecular structure of fluorosilicone oil give it extremely strong chemical inertness, effectively resisting corrosion from sulfides, ethanol, methanol, and other corrosive components in fuel. In modern fuel systems containing biofuels or high-oxygen fuels, fluorosilicone oil seals exhibit significantly better swelling resistance and durability than fluorocarbon elastomers, significantly reducing the risk of seal failure.

Low Friction and Long-Lasting Lubrication Performance: Fluorosilicone oil has extremely low surface tension and friction coefficient, forming a stable and tough lubricating film on metal and rubber contact surfaces, reducing wear on precision components such as injector needle valves and plunger pairs. Experiments show that the friction loss in injection systems lubricated with fluorosilicone oil can be reduced by more than 30%, extending the life of critical components and improving fuel economy.

Excellent Material Compatibility: Fluorosilicone oil does not cause swelling or corrosion to fluororubber (FKM), silicone rubber, engineering plastics, and metal materials widely used in engines, avoiding problems such as swelling, hardening, or cracking of seals that may be caused by traditional lubricants, ensuring the long-term sealing integrity of the fuel system.

Advantages Compared to Traditional Lubricants: Compared to traditional lubricants, fluorosilicone oil performs better in terms of carbon deposit resistance, oxidation resistance, and viscosity retention at high temperatures. Traditional lubricants are prone to oxidation and sludge formation under high temperature and pressure, which can clog fuel injection nozzles.  Fluorosilicone oil, however, remains clean, reducing the risk of nozzle clogging and improving combustion efficiency and emission control capabilities.
