The predecessor of History College of Nanjing University traces back to the National History Department of Sanjiang Normal University established in 1902. When the Department was adjusted in 1952, the Department of history of Nanjing University was formed by the combination of the former school of history of Central University, the Department of Frontier politics and the school of history of Jinling University. In December 2014, the Department of history was abolished, and the school of history of Nanjing University was established, including the Department of Chinese history, the Department of world history, the Department of Archaeology and cultural relics, the Institute of international relations and the Institute of China's border policy.
Over the past hundred years, through the hard work of several generations of scholars, our college has formed a relatively complete teaching system. The Department has three undergraduate majors in history, archaeology and Archaeology (cultural relic identification); seven doctoral programs in modern Chinese history, ancient Chinese history, world history, special history, history of international relations, frontier science and archaeology; seven master programs in Archaeology and Museology, special history, ancient Chinese history, modern Chinese history, world history, international relations and ethnology. In 1995, the college was established as a liberal arts personnel training and scientific research base directly under the Ministry of education of the people's Republic of China. In 1996, the Ministry of personnel of the people's Republic of China reviewed and established the post doctoral mobile station, and became the first unit to enter the national engineering. In 1998, after being evaluated by the academic degree Office of the State Council, the college was approved to recruit doctoral students according to the first level discipline of history. The world history of our college is a national key discipline, and the modern history of China is a key discipline of Jiangsu Province. The scientific research and teaching team of this major is rated as an excellent discipline echelon of Jiangsu Province. Nanjing University History Research Center of the Republic of China is the key research base of Humanities and social sciences of the Ministry of education. The newly established Institute of international relations has also begun to recruit graduate students.
There are 85 faculty members, 73 full-time teachers and 12 administrative staff, including 39 professors (34 doctoral supervisors), 24 associate professors, 4 lecturers, 4 doctoral candidates, 2 full-time researchers and 27 postdoctors. Among the teachers, 1 is doctor of Duke University, 1 is doctor of Kyoto University, 1 is doctor of Tokyo University, 2 is doctor of Kyushu University, and 1 is postdoctoral of China Research Center, University of Michigan. More than 90% of the young and middle-aged teachers have visited the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, South Korea, Austria, Italy for a long-term or short-term visit. In addition, the college has 1 distinguished professor of Yangtze River scholars of the Ministry of education, 3 honorary senior professors of NANDA, 3 distinguished professors of NANDA, 18 people who enjoy government subsidies of the State Council, 8 new century talents of the Ministry of education, 5 people of "333" project of Jiangsu Province and 6 people of "blue and green project" of Jiangsu Province. In recent years, our teachers have made outstanding achievements in many research fields: the "Nanjing Massacre historical data collection" edited by Zhang Xianwen won the first prize of the fifth excellent achievements of Humanities and Social Sciences in Colleges and universities by the Ministry of education; the first prize of the first research achievements of Humanities and Social Sciences in Colleges and universities by the Ministry of education was won by Professor Qian Chengdan and Professor Chen Xiaolv's "between tradition and change - tracing the origin of British cultural model"; Zhang Xianwen won the first prize of the first research achievements of Humanities and Social Sciences in Colleges and universities by the Ministry of education Professor Zhu Ming's "complete works of ancient Greek tragedies (1-8)" won the second China publishing government award and other major awards; Professor Liu Yingsheng's "Yuan Shi" will be annotated and verified "and Professor Fan Jinmin's" historical evolution of Jiangnan regional culture "won major national social science research projects respectively. There are 724 students majoring in history, archaeology and Cultural Relics Identification in the Department, including 162 doctoral students, 305 master students and 257 undergraduate students; among them, the Cultural Relics Identification direction will graduate from the first undergraduate in 2012.
The school of history has a bright future: it has three first-class subjects: Chinese history, world history and archaeology. The school of history has always paid attention to the cultivation of compound talents with high quality and wide adaptability. In addition to studying the general history of China and the world, undergraduates also take a large number of cultural quality courses and application-oriented courses. Western civilization history, Chinese cultural history, research on Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan issues, Chinese economic history, official document writing and other courses are popular with students. Teachers and students majoring in archaeology have long participated in field work and cultural relics excavation and sorting; in terms of postgraduate training, the school of history is committed to strengthening academic exchanges and cooperation at home and abroad, working with Oxford University, Cambridge University, London University, Edinburgh University, Paris University, Harvard University, Stanford University, Princeton University, etc. in more than 10 countries and regions in Europe and America Several universities and research institutions have established stable relations of exchange and cooperation; hundreds of famous overseas professors and visiting scholars have successively lectured here, studied for doctorates and master's degrees, or engaged in postdoctoral research; held many large-scale international academic discussions on the history of the Republic of China, the history of the UK, the social history of China, contemporary Taiwan studies, European studies, etc Meeting.
The graduates of history college have a wide range of employment. They can be seen in the Ministry of foreign affairs, the Ministry of security, news agencies, research institutes of colleges and universities, the army and other units.
