Professional positioning, historical evolution and characteristic advantages
The Department of Sociology of Nanjing University has a long history, which originates from the Department of Sociology of Central University established in 1928 and the Department of Sociology of Jinling University established in 1930.
In 1983, 30 years after the cancellation of China's sociology major, Nanjing University established a sociology research office, and then was approved to establish a master's degree in Sociology in 1985, becoming the first batch of domestic institutions to restore sociology.
In 1988, Nanjing University rebuilt the Department of sociology, set up the sociology major, and began to recruit undergraduates majoring in sociology.
In 1996, after Peking University and the National People's Congress, it became the third university in China with the right to confer a doctor's degree in sociology.
In 2001, Jiangsu Provincial People's government established it as "key discipline of higher education in Jiangsu Province".
In 2003, it was approved to establish a post doctoral station of sociology.
In 2007, it was listed as "national key discipline" by the Ministry of education.
In 2010, 2014 and 2018, it was selected as the dominant discipline of Jiangsu Province for three times.
In 2012, the Ministry of education ranked third in the country in the third subject evaluation.
In 2016, the fourth discipline evaluation of the Ministry of education was identified as a discipline.

Deepening the comprehensive reform of undergraduate major
In order to improve the students' academic quality and practical problem-solving ability, we insist on scientific research as the driving force of teaching. In the aspect of undergraduate talent training, we closely follow the guiding ideology and practical needs of running a school to formulate training objectives, training specifications and curriculum, and constantly adjust and improve talent training programs according to the social response and teaching feedback. The two highlights are the construction of "three three systems" training brand and the construction of international and localized comprehensive talent training brand.
"Three three systems" undergraduate talent training brand building. In recent years, the "three three systems" training program has been continuously improved and gradually matured. In the process of the "three three systems" reform of undergraduate teaching in Nanjing University, we have constantly promoted the teaching reform of sociology. Through the comparative analysis of the training programs (including professional objectives, curriculum settings and teaching plans) for undergraduate students of sociology major in famous foreign and overseas universities, we have found the gap, in order to further improve the curriculum settings and sociological researchers of the branches of sociology A series of teaching reform plans and specific programs have been formulated in the course of law. At present, the total credit of four-year undergraduate course of sociology is 150 credits, including 49 credits (33%) for general education course module (general education course, general course), 45 credits (30%) for discipline professional course module (discipline platform course, professional core course), and ③ elective course module (professional academic course, cross compound course, employment and entrepreneurship course, innovation and entrepreneurship course) 46 credits (30%), and 10 credits (7%) for practical teaching (academic year thesis, graduation thesis, professional practice). The brand building of undergraduate talents training with both internationalization and localization. The brand building of comprehensive talent training with both internationalization and localization is supported by international courses, diversified lecture systems and field research at home and abroad. Continuously strengthen the construction of teaching staff and basic teaching organizations
After years of hard work, the sociology major of Nanjing University has become an important sociological town in China with orderly teachers, leading teaching quality and outstanding research characteristics. High level and diverse teaching staff and effective construction of grass-roots teaching organizations make us have considerable academic competitiveness and cultural creativity.
(1) Construction of teaching staff. Continuously improve the construction of professional teaching quality assurance system
