Principle and application of radar imaging
Series of lectures on innovation and Entrepreneurship of electronic information in Nanjing University
On the evening of April 17, 2020, Professor Bai yechao from the school of Electronic Science and engineering was invited to give a lecture entitled "radar imaging principle and application" in the series of lectures on innovation and Entrepreneurship of electronic information of Nanjing University. Affected by the epidemic situation, the lecture was in the form of Online classroom. The lecture attracted more than 60 people from freshmen to seniors.
Part1
Professor Bai first introduced the brief history of radar development. As a military equipment, radar was born in the 1930s. Several important time nodes in history include: 1864 Maxwell put forward the electromagnetic theory; 1925 Hopkins University first observed the short wave narrow pulse echo reflected from the ionosphere on the cathode-ray fluorescence screen, which is the observation terminal that radar has been used up to now; 1940 MIT established the radiation laboratory, focusing on Radar Research (later changed to Lincoln Laboratory).
Part2
Next, Professor Bai introduced the basic components of the radar system, including transmitter, transceiver switch, antenna control, receiver and display modules, and also introduced the basic principles of radar measurement: target distance measurement, target azimuth measurement, target height measurement, target track measurement, target radial velocity measurement, etc.
Part3
After finishing the introduction of the basic part, Professor Bai began to focus on the radar equation: it refers to the relationship between the transmitting power and the receiving power when the radar sends at a certain power and encounters the target return. The radar imaging technology of radar target recognition is introduced. In addition to the traditional radar, Professor Bai also introduced the relevant aspects of phased array radar, as well as the new technologies of phased array radar: reducing volume, reducing cost and improving reliability; digital beam integration technology; all digital transceiver components, etc.
Part4
In terms of radar imaging technology, Professor Bai has extended the concepts of inverse synthetic aperture radar imaging and turntable imaging on the basis of previous research. Such technology has a wide range of applications, including: topographic mapping and geological research, agriculture and forestry, marine research and monitoring, battlefield investigation, precise guidance, target resolution, target identification, space mapping, urban construction survey, field detection Disaster reduction and prevention.
End
In the last part of the lecture, Professor Bai mainly introduces the research direction of his research group, including UAV formation communication, radar communication integration, machine learning, etc. if students are interested in it, they can contact Mr. Bai yechao.
With the help of this lecture, Professor Bai popularized radar and its main working principle to the students, and "pulled down the altar" of the term "radar" from the military field which is far away from us, and deconstructed it layer by layer, bringing a colorful Science Lecture for the students!
