02 professional introduction
The journalism and communication discipline of Nanjing University originated from the "special subject of film and broadcasting" founded by sun Mingjing, the predecessor of Nanjing University, in 1936. It is the earliest film broadcasting education unit in China, and also the origin of higher education of film and audio communication in China. In 1952, Jinling University and Nanjing University (rebuilt by the National Central University) participated in the adjustment of national departments, and the two universities merged the College of literature and science, and set up a journalism specialty. In 1986, Nanjing University resumed the teaching system of journalism major and formally established the Department in October 1992. In December 2003, Nanjing University established the school of Journalism and communication. In autumn 2018, the College moved from Gulou campus to Xianlin Campus. The new building covers an area of more than 10000 square meters, with beautiful environment and modern research and teaching software and hardware facilities.
At present, the college has doctoral and master's degree programs in journalism and communication, three departments including radio, film and television, applied communication, news and new media, and eight research institutions including network communication, communication and society, news and politics, media economy and management, computational communication research center, news innovation laboratory and Sino German digital marketing laboratory. The school's journalism and communication discipline ranked among the top ten in the fourth round of discipline evaluation by the Ministry of education, and was selected into the "13th five year plan" first level discipline construction list of key (cultivation) disciplines in Jiangsu Province and the third batch of advantageous disciplines in Jiangsu Province. As of 2018, the number of national social science fund projects of the college ranked the third in China. In the past decade, CSSCI has ranked the fourth in the number of published papers and the fifth in the number of citations.
