Part I Introduction to departments
The College of foreign languages of Nanjing University was founded in 1917 as an English major in Nanjing Normal University. In the course of more than a century's schooling, generations of foreign scholars have made great efforts to manage and inherit, forming the spiritual tradition of Yuanyuan excellence and advocating practical work, making it one of the most important foreign language teaching and research bases in China, and cultivating nearly 10000 high-quality foreign language professionals for the prosperity of the country and the rejuvenation of the nation. The major of foreign language and literature is not only a highly Academic Humanities, but also closely related to the national reform and opening up, social and economic development, with a wide range of applications.
In 2019, there were 309 people in the College of foreign languages, including 165 undergraduate graduates, with the employment rate of 100%.

1、 Employment quality analysis
There are 47 graduates from Foreign Languages University in 2019, accounting for 100% of the double first-class universities in China, and 48 overseas students, including 58.3% of the top 100 universities in QS World University ranking (2019).

The graduates of our college are generally satisfied with their employment and salary. The most desired job is promotion and success opportunities. Even if the work they are engaged in is not highly related to their major or even completely unrelated, as long as they can get growth from their work and realize their self-worth and social value, they are still very attractive.
Secondly, welfare is another big influence factor. In the process of survey, the influence of salary accounts for a large proportion. High salary makes them more likely to have satisfaction with their work.
3、 Employer evaluation
The vast majority of employers hold a positive attitude towards the work ability and performance of graduates of our college.
The survey shows that the graduates of our college are more favored by employers, including: outstanding learning ability, high ideological quality, executive power and sense of responsibility; wide range of knowledge, strong professionalism, high level of foreign language, strong hands-on ability; outstanding interpersonal skills, good at communication and collaboration, critical thinking, and leadership, but the computer application ability and innovation ability are relatively insufficient.

1、 The scale and proportion of graduates' enrollment are expanding
In 2019, the number of students entering the University accounted for 30.7%, and the scale of our graduates entering the world's high-level universities has been expanding. The overall number and proportion of students studying in world-famous universities have been increasing year by year, with undergraduate students accounting for the vast majority of the enrollment. The quality of students' enrollment has been steadily improved, and the proportion of domestic graduates who choose to stay in school remains at about 50%.
2、 Relatively concentrated cities in employment areas
From the perspective of employment areas, the eastern region is dominant. From the perspective of employment cities, the employment cities of graduates of our college are mainly large and medium-sized cities. About 40% of graduates choose to work in first tier cities and provincial capitals (mainly in the Yangtze River Delta region).
3、 Industry analysis and forecast
In recent years, in terms of the distribution of graduates' industries, the education industry continues to be popular, and information technology service industry and public management, social security and social organizations are also relatively popular.
It is worth noting that in 2019, the number of students employed in public management, social security and social organizations increased by 9 compared with that in 2018, which shows that the college has made remarkable achievements in guiding students to work at the grass-roots level. More and more students choose to become public officials to build their careers at the grass-roots level. Some of the 2019 graduates choose to engage in free translation, which shows that they have accumulated solid professional skills in their study and can give full play to their professional advantages.
In addition, it can be seen from the data that graduates are less and less limited by the language specialty in the industry selection, and their job selection tends to be diversified. The demand of the times, the development prospect of the industry, and the salary and treatment are all included in the important consideration of graduates when they are seeking employment.
