In the United States, both approved implants are silicone coated, but one is filled with salt water and the other is silicone. The thickness, size, surface texture and shape of the prosthesis are different. According to the New York Post, a previous study showed that salt water filled silicone prosthesis saved lives by slowing down the speed of bullets. Another study showed that silicone prosthesis had blocked small shot of shotgun.
In the past decade, there have been about four life-saving cases of breast augmentation prosthesis in the world. In 2015, a Brazilian woman named Gujer was shot four times, but miraculously survived.
