After the traditional vulcanization process, silicone rubber forms a three-dimensional network structure due to chemical cross-linking, which has rubber properties. In industrial production, peroxides are commonly used in mixing silicone rubber vulcanizing agents, such as double-25, odorless vulcanizing agent, double-24, DCP, etc., which have the characteristics of low cost, good stability and convenient operation. However, traditional vulcanizing agents have strong oxidizing properties, are flammable and explosive, are prone to yellowing and have great odor, and are difficult to meet high-end needs, such as food and medical standards.

In recent years, the industrial production technology of platinum group metal catalysts has matured, and the compounding silicone rubber industry has opened up more and more markets for platinum catalysts. The products mixed with platinum catalyst get rid of a series of physical and chemical problems existing in rubber after traditional vulcanization process, and meet the access standards for food and medical treatment. It is increasingly sought after in high-end markets such as wearable equipment, toys, and gifts. However, conventional platinum vulcanizing agents are divided into two series. In the rubber mixing process, two systems of vulcanizing agents are added depending on the situation. The purpose is to control the reaction time and control the cross-linking effect of the mixed rubber during the production of the mixed rubber. However, this kind of dual-system operation is relatively cumbersome and reduces production efficiency. Therefore, many manufacturers generally premix some additives, and ultimately improve production efficiency by reducing the overall mixing time.

Platinum catalysts form a series of additive systems with different performance requirements in the organic silica gel industry. The main customer groups served are the vast enterprises that produce liquid silicone rubber, solid compounded silicone rubber, silicone pressure-sensitive adhesive and release agent, silicone ink, platinum vulcanizing agent, special silicone products, and special modified silicone oil. At present, the market product system is mature, and the technology is constantly innovating (the third grade of auxiliary products is upgraded), but considering the cost, there are still many downstream manufacturers using traditional vulcanizing agents. Due to the continuous improvement of environmental protection requirements and the high labor cost, the technology of platinum vulcanization continues to improve, and the cost gradually decreases. The advantages of platinum vulcanization over peroxide vulcanization are becoming more and more obvious, and there will be more and more applications in the silicone industry.

Platinum group metals benefit from excellent high temperature resistance, oxidation resistance and high catalytic activity. It is not only used in the core part of fuel cell technology, but also in the central link of the semiconductor chip industry. In the future of new energy, new materials, and new ecology, platinum group metals, as the equipment manufacturing link in the clean energy industry chain, will continue to be demanded by the market.
