Silicone rubber in aviation

Hits: 823 img

Generally, any material used in space must have the following characteristics:
·Good resistance to radiation degradation
·Excellent ozone resistance
·Excellent thermal cycle resistance

Materials that meet some of these requirements include silicone rubber, epoxy resin, polyurethane, etc., especially phenyl silicone rubber used in aerospace materials has obvious advantages because it can withstand extreme temperatures in space and can operate at very low temperatures. It maintains good flexibility at low temperatures (other materials will harden and crack), and its elastomer properties can suppress the adverse effects of launching vibrations. In addition, performance changes encountered in space flight, such as temperature changes, will cause a surface to shrink or hinder the propagation of electromagnetic waves and subatomic particles. Phenyl silicone rubber has good high and low temperature resistance, which will solve this problem well.

Finally, although radiation in space can cause changes in the properties of space materials similar to thermal aging, some special silicone materials, such as phenyl silicone rubber, have excellent radiation resistance and are suitable for use under radiation conditions. And still maintain good mechanical properties.
